September last year (sounds crazy saying last year - where has the time gone) I was gifted by Proactiv+ the Deluxe Core Kit (you can view my introductory post here) and I was to test this product for a couple of weeks and report back the results. My blogging 'sabbatical' came before this, so I thought I would review this for you now and let you know how I got on. October came by and unfortunately I had to email my PR contact and say I was unable to continue using the product.
As you may know I was in the search for a skincare regime that would work for me, I had been breaking out in these under the skin type spots across my cheeks, around my nose and on my chin. I was always on the look out for something to help me fight these as I hadn't found anything to work for me. When I got an opportunity to try the Proactiv+ range I jumped at the chance, hoping that this 3 piece kit could finally combat my problems. I did my research and from reviews I has read, it really worked for people.
I started using the products right away, following the instructions correctly. I started getting really large, angry and very painful under the skin spots on my cheeks and chin, something I had never gotten before. I was expecting my skin to purge a little - you know what they say; it gets worse before it gets better. I pursued with it hoping that it was just all the nastiness coming out and I would be left with lovely clean skin. This never happened.
Not only did the products break me out badly, my skin was SO dry. The moisturiser wasn't moisturising enough and my skin was seriously dehydrated. It also sat horrendously underneath my makeup. I would leave the moisturiser to sink into my skin but as I was buffing or pouncing my foundation into my skin, chunks of what looked like dead skin but was actually my foundation coming off as I blended.
I persisted for I believe 5 weeks but in the end gave up as I couldn't continue with having such a painful face all the time. I don't know if I had a reaction to the acne fighting ingredients or they were simply just too strong for my type of skin. I can tell you that I will not be using any acne fighting products again on my face because I simply do not need it and I actually give myself acne from using those products. A couple of months later and I'm slowly getting back to having healthy skin - I will do an updated skincare routine post soon to let you know my findings.
I really wanted to give a good review, I also really wanted it to work. I just have very sensitive skin. If you are suffering from acne, please do not let this deter you. I have seen some amazing results from their products. I just can't recommend them myself.
I hope this helps some of you suffering with the same thing as me. Don't put your skin through the pain of acne-strength treatments if you aren't dealing with acne yourself. You could end up worse off.
Let me know in the comments if you've tried Proactiv+ and also share your results so you can help others.
This isn't a negative review on the brand or even their products - it's an honest review and just because it didn't work for me, it doesn't mean it won't work for you.
