Finding What Works For Me | Skincare

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

Drum roll please... I have found two skincare products that I love and actually work. Only two so don't go jumping for joy thinking that you'll be able to change your entire routine. To me though this is a huge breakthrough. Only 25,0000 products to go.. Just kidding.

Away with the negativity because this is a positive one for me.

Okay, so when it comes to my skin, I'm a bad bad person. I have tonnes of skincare products but 99.9% of them are 99.9% full. This is because I try something once, get lazy again and stop looking after my skin. I'm a creature of habit what can I say. I still am very very lazy but last week I had an epiphany and I am completley changing my way of life - sounds dramatic. It really means I'm changing my attitude towards certain things and that includes my attitude towards my skin. I have a skincare routine for the morning which I stick to, but my evening routine I probably do once a week because I'm being lazy, and can't be bothered to get out of bed after watching and crying at the Gladiator to prep my skin for night time. Instead I remove my make-up with a wipe and that is that.

What I have realised is that your night time routine is just as important if not more important than your morning one. Whenever I do my weekly night time routine which includes these steps: removing majority of make-up with a wipe, cleansing the skin to remove excess make-up and impurities, face mask, toner and finally an oil my skin looks and feels amazing. The reason being is that your skin repairs itself over night so going to bed with a dirty face is only going to clog your pores because you haven't removed the dirt that blocks them. You need to prep your skin for its renewal overnight and I can definitely tell the difference and suffer with less breakouts when I follow this routine.

I use the same cleanser, toner and exfoliator for my daytime routine as I do with my night time routine, so the only difference is the face mask and oil I use at night. By picking out the things you use differently you can figure out what is working for you and what isn't.

Enough with the rambling and let me get on the products that have been working wonders (when used) on my skin.

The Soap & Glory 'No Clogs Allowed' Super Self Heating Deep Pore Detox Mask - £11.50 is exactly what it says it is. It deeply cleans your skin to remove dirt and impurities from your skin leaving it super soft and pores visibly reduced. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone that has really dry skin as it is quite a drying face mask. It draws all the oils out of your skin so you definitely have to put oil back in to help counteract this. When I use this my spots reduce and it helps prevent further breakouts. It has a ton of 'good for your skin' ingredients such as: salicylic acid and glycerin which help aid soft and supple skin. Yay.

My all time favourite is the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate - £36.00. It says it is 'a replenishing elixir of pure essential oils and distilled botanicals to visibly restore the appearance of skin by morning' and my god does it do that. Not only does this feel amazing on application (if you don't like oils on your face you won't like this) it actually works. Whenever I use this I love the results by morning. My skin is baby soft and looks 100% healthier and brighter. It makes make-up application seamless. It's a little pricey I must admit but a little goes along way. A few drops in your fingers easily dispersed by the pipette and that does your whole face. I would highly recommend this for any skin types, I have oily/combination and it doesn't make my skin more oily, if anything it reduces the oil I get throughout the day.

What are your skincare must-haves?
