Battle of the Falsh Lash Effect Mascara | Highend vs Drugstore

Monday, 11 August 2014

Mascara is one of those things I can not live without. If I had to choose one product to wear for the rest of my life it would have to be mascara. It can transform any face or any make-up look but it can also make or break a look - spider legs are not O.K. Mascara is the only product I buy at the drugstore - and what I mean is I have several foundations, lipsticks etc but they are mainly high end with a couple of drugstore products mixed in, but I only have drugstore mascara and I will forever have drugstore mascara. I can tell this post is already going to be very controversial because of the huge love for the product but let me tell you why anyway..

I was feeling generous one day and decided to purchase the Benefit They're Real! Mascara as a little treat to myself. I'd heard people rave about this and therefore had high expectations - which were unfortunately brought to a swift halt. At £19.50 it was a complete investment for something so small (I'd happily spend that on lipstick but hey ho). I'd actually had two They're Real mascara's because I actually complained - I never complain and was sent another one as a replacement for free. Yet the same thing occured. I can not slate the customer service of Benefit Cosmetics as they were extremely helpful and were great at resolving the issue. However, the issue remained with the product. Before you say that I have left the mascara slightly open and it dried out, I actually have drugstore mascaras that have literally lasted me months and months (and yes that may not be the best either due to expiry dates blah blah blah but it's been fine for my personal use) - this lasted me no longer than a few weeks before it dried out and was impossible to use. I don't know about you but I can not afford to spend almost £20 on something every few weeks or so, that could be going on food or bills or petrol - c'mon! To be quite honest I was never very impressed with it during my experience anyway. It never really lengthened nor seperated in a way it is described. I have fairly thick lashes and I just generally choose a mascara for length and slight volume, but this never really lengthened in the way I'd had hoped but instead clumped my lashes together, not to the extent it was embarrasing to be seen but you get my drift. The consitency of the product is very watery and that is where I think they went wrong. You get too much watery product on the wand to work effectively, and therefore have to wipe the wand before use.

Now onto my drugstore favourite: L'Oreal Falsh Lash Telescopic Mascara at only £10.99 and currently on offer in Boots for 'Buy one get the second half price on selected L'Oreal products' means you could get two of these for the price of one Benefit They're Real Mascara and still have change - woohoo! Now that's what I'm talking about. This mascara is my holy grail. If you're looking for a lengthening mascara I can assure you that you will not be disappointed by this! There is just enough product transferred onto the the wand to create the perfect look - which always leaves my lashes lengthened and seperated. I do always curl my lashes before I apply mascara and without fail always apply two coats leaving about a minute in between coats. If you are a fan of the original Telescopic mascara you will love this even more, providing you with flirty long lashes to die for.
